Birthday — music that belongs to everyone.
A small circle at home, in the garden or in the basement — or a big party in a rented hall, barn or ballroom: a birthday table brings together family, old friends and new coworkers, each with different taste. One person in charge of the playlist can barely guess that mix — the majority in the room does not have to. Your guests request by QR code, the votes decide, and you keep the frame in your hands.
The music people still talk about after.
It's always the same situation. The parents want the songs from back then, the old friends want the summer hit from ten years ago, the new coworkers want whatever's playing right now. If one person decides, some group ends up feeling ignored by the end of the night.
The reason isn't bad taste, it's the job itself. A birthday table is not one audience: whether it's fifteen people in the basement or a hundred and fifty in a rented hall, generations meet that would otherwise never share a playlist.
With Juqed the guessing is over. Everyone requests what they want to hear, the votes decide the order — and you're not the one mediating between camps.
Seven things that count here.
A birthday isn't a club night: it runs long, it happens anywhere from a basement to a rented ballroom, and it's usually organised by the birthday person themselves — who is also the host that evening. That's what decides which things matter.
Auto DJ and Autopilot fill the quiet moments
During dinner, during a speech, or whenever nobody's thinking about their phone, the playlist never runs empty: Auto DJ looks at what has already played at this party and gone down well, and keeps going in kind. With Juqed Gold, the Autopilot also orders the existing requests so there are no hard cuts between oldies, chart pop and party classics — exactly the mix a birthday table with three generations needs. Song choice is democratic
Everyone requests what they want to hear and can vote other people's requests up. What most people want sits on top — not whatever was typed in first. That way neither the family, nor the old friends, nor the new coworkers get to run the playlist alone. How voting works →
The QR code comes out of the app as an A4 poster
One tap on "Print QR code" and Juqed Go produces a finished A4 PDF with the QR code, the event link and a three-step instruction. The share sheet sends it straight to the printer — whether the party is in the garden, the basement, or a rented ballroom that already has place cards and decorations. The three ways in →
"Birthday for …" on every guest's phone
With Juqed Gold you add host, occasion and a photo of the birthday person. Both then sit on the guest page on every phone and large on screen mode — the answer to the question everyone has for a moment when scanning: am I in the right place? And it hangs on the event, not the account: once the party is over, the image is gone. Personalise your event →
Screen mode shows what's coming up next
A second screen shows the QR code, the current track and the next requests with their votes. In a basement the TV is often enough, in a ballroom it's the big screen up front — latecomers scan it off the wall instead of hunting for your phone. Screen mode →
You set the frame
Letting people decide isn't the same as losing control. The blocklist holds the one joke song the old friends are guaranteed to request — it never even shows up in guest search. On top come three fair-use rules: a wait between two requests from the same guest, a cap on open requests per guest, and a vote limit per hour, so even with a hundred and fifty guests in a hall no single group takes over the evening. Blocklist and fair use →
No shared Wi-Fi needed
The party is in the garden, in a basement with no router nearby, or in a rented hall, barn or ballroom that simply has no Wi-Fi at all. With Juqed Go that's not an issue: host and guests may be on different networks, mobile data is enough. Nobody needs a Wi-Fi password passed around the table. No shared Wi-Fi →
Which Juqed app fits a birthday party?
Got an iPhone or iPad handy? Then Juqed Go is the right pick — create the event, print the QR code, done, whether that's at home, in a basement or in a rented hall. Without an Apple device, Juqed Web works just as well in the browser on any computer, nothing to install. Every difference is in the comparison of all three editions.
For your guests it's the same either way: no download, no account, no cost. They scan the code and land in the browser their phone already has — Android as much as iPhone.
How you set it up.
Host device on the speakers
A Bluetooth speaker in the garden, a stereo in the basement, hall sound over a jack lead or AirPlay — all fine. After that the device can go back in your pocket: the music keeps playing.
Print the QR code and put it up
Tap "Print QR code", send the A4 PDF to the printer. Next to the birthday cards, at the drinks table, or by the buffet — basement or ballroom, same idea.
Set the frame, add the photo
Set the blocklist and fair-use rules before the first request comes in, add the birthday person's photo, then drag screen mode onto the TV or projector. From here it runs without you.
What to watch for.
- Turn on Auto DJ and Autopilot early. Before the first guests arrive, so the room's already warmed up — basement or ballroom alike.
- Control the cake moment yourself. Move the "Happy Birthday" song up or skip ahead for it instead of trusting the playlist — that moment is yours, not the vote's.
- For big parties: bring a power bank. The bigger the hall or barn, the longer the host device has to run — among the events already run on Juqed Go, the big parties ran the longest.
- Announce it beforehand. One line on the invite saying everyone gets a say this time — people who already know scan on arrival instead of at eleven.
- Add the birthday person's photo. With Juqed Gold it shows on every guest's phone and on screen mode — a small effort, a big effect, basement or ballroom.
- Read it back the next day. The event recap shows what played and what went down well — a usable basis for planning the next birthday.
Common questions about birthdays.
Do my guests need to install an app?
No. Guests scan the QR code and land in the browser their phone already has — Android as much as iPhone, old device as much as new. No download, no account, no cost. Only the host needs Juqed Go or a Juqed Web account.
Does this work in a basement or a barn without Wi-Fi?
With Juqed Go it does. Host and guests may be on different networks, mobile data is enough, mixed networks work too. No shared Wi-Fi and no password passed around the table.
What plays when nobody is requesting anything?
Auto DJ takes over. It looks at what has already played at this party and gone down well, and keeps going in kind. No silence, and nobody has to remember to do it.
What's the difference between Auto DJ and Autopilot?
Auto DJ is included free in every edition and queues up fitting music whenever the request list is empty. Autopilot is the Juqed Gold upgrade to that: it also reorders the incoming requests themselves so there are no hard style clashes between generations.
Can we block the embarrassing joke song the old friends are bound to request?
Yes. Whatever's on the blocklist — an artist, a title or a keyword — never shows up in guest search at all and won't be played by Auto DJ either. If something unwanted turns up anyway, you can skip it anytime.
Does this work the same for a small party as for a big one?
Yes. With five guests in a basement, the competition for tracks tends to turn into shared browsing instead; with a hundred and fifty in a ballroom, voting really shows its strength. The fair-use rules scale too — the wait between requests, the cap per guest and the hourly vote limit can all be adjusted.
