It steps in when nothing is left.
The moment the queue is empty and the current track ends, the Auto DJ takes over. It looks at what has already played at this event, works out the most common genres and finds matching tracks in the Apple Music catalogue.
It is not a stored playlist grinding through. What your guests voted up in the first hour shapes what it suggests in the second.
Because a gap kills the room.
Requests arrive unevenly. Everything at once early on, then half an hour of nothing in the middle of the night because everyone is busy. Without an Auto DJ every one of those pauses becomes silence — and silence at a party is expensive.
So the Auto DJ is not an extra. It is the condition that makes letting people decide practical at all. Without it somebody would always have to be watching.

- Source — where it refills from: the event so far, by genre, or your own Apple Music playlists.
- Starting genre — at the beginning there is no history to read, so it uses this as its starting point. Pop by default; “Indie” for a dorm party, “Jazz” for a café.
- No self-reference — its own picks do not feed back into the taste analysis. Without that guard it would confirm itself and start going in circles.
- Repeat guard — it never adds the same track twice in one event. A guest may request a track again; the Auto DJ may not.
- Off — one switch. Then only what guests suggest and vote up will play. Useful when you want to curate a stretch yourself.

Does it play the same track twice?
No. It never adds the same track twice in one event. A guest can request a track again — the guard applies only to the Auto DJ.
Can I switch it off entirely?
Yes, with one switch in the settings. Then only what guests suggest and vote up will play.
How does it know what fits?
It analyses what has already played at this event and looks for tracks in the same genres. At the very start, with nothing to analyse, it uses the starting genre you set.
